Niskayuna Fire District No. 1 enjoys a relatively low incidence of fires when compared to other areas of the country. One contributing factor to this is our Code Enforcement program. Career staff of the Fire District conducts regular fire safety inspections in over 125 commercial and residential properties throughout the Fire District. The inspections also include our schools and places of public assembly.

Inspectors, trained by the State of New York’s Code Enforcement Office and working in concert with the Town of Niskayuna Building Department, address issues such as emergency exit access, electrical safety, fire extinguishing systems, and fire department access to buildings. The program also keeps our emergency responders familiar with the facilities in our district making it safer for our responders and our citizens when we are called for an emergency.

In addition to regular inspections, Fire District personnel participate with the review of building construction plans for proposals being developed within the Fire District.

The Grand Boulevard Fire Company sponsors two scholarships for seniors heading off to college from the Niskayuna School District.
