Welcome to Niskayuna Fires District 1.The residents of Niskayuna Fire District 1 are served by a combination fire department. There are nearly 30 volunteer firefighters, emergency medical technicians, both at the basic level as well as paramedics, in the Grand Boulevard Fire Company {GBFC} . The career Division is comprised of 15 firefighter/paramedics in the Niskayuna Professional Firefighters Association {PFA} . This unique blend of personnel allows a rapid emergency response to all types of conditions: fires, medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, and assistance services.

Both groups operate out of two stations within the district. The main station at 1079 Balltown Road, is staffed 24 hours, 7 days a week. The substation located on River Road, just east of the intersection of Balltown Road and River Road, is staffed Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. The career staff provides this level of coverage. The volunteers of Grand Boulevard Fire Company respond from home, or from either station depending on their address within the Fire District.

The activities and operation of both the GBFC and the PFA are overseen by the Fire District 1 Board of Fire Commissioners.
