Niskayuna Fire District No. 1 is
protected by a combination of dedicated
career and volunteer firefighters,
paramedics, and emergency medical
technicians. The district's 15
career firefighter/paramedics and 30
volunteer firefighters and EMT's work
side by side 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week to protect the citizens of
Niskayuna Fire District No. 1 and those
who work and travel through the
community.
NFD 1 operate out of two stations
within the district. The district
headquarters located at
1079 Balltown Road, is staffed 24 hours,
7 days a week by career
firefighter/paramedics. The substation located on
River Road, just east of the
intersection of Balltown Road and River
Road, is staffed Monday through Friday
8:00am to 4:30pm. The volunteers of
Grand Boulevard Fire Company respond
from home or work when emergency calls
are received.
Geographically,
Niskayuna Fire District No. 1 covers
approximately 10 square miles centered
on Balltown Road and running a 2.5 mile
wide path from Village road to the
Rexford Bridge. The district is
bordered by the City of Schenectady to
the west, Saratoga County to the north
and neighboring fire districts to the
east and south. Total resident
population is in excess of 12,000 with
an estimated weekday population of near
20,000.
NFD 1 maintains
close working relationships with the
Niskayuna Police Department, local
hospitals, schools, neighboring
emergency services agencies and the
business community to promote the
health, safety, and emergency
preparedness of our community.
